Dr. Kalash: Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeon

Dr. med. Ziad Kalash was born in Latakia, Syria. After graduating from high school, he studied medicine in his hometown and passed his final exam in 2003. Early on, he was fascinated by the possibilities of plastic surgery, which is why he dedicated his doctoral thesis to hand surgery. Afterwards, Dr. Kalash had the opportunity to go to the renowned clinic for plastic and hand surgery at the University Hospital of Freiburg with Prof. Dr. G.B. Stark. He wrote his second doctoral thesis in plastic surgery at the Freiburg Medical Faculty.

In 2012, he successfully completed his specialty training in plastic surgery and acquired an additional qualification in hand surgery. He was appointed consultant and head of the Section for Plastic Surgery of the Breast section in 2018.

During his 18 years at the Clinic for Plastic and Hand Surgery at the University Hospital of Freiburg, he supervised important clinical studies and implemented and developed different modern surgical techniques. In total, he performed more than 5,100 operations in the entire field of plastic and hand surgery.

In addition to his work at the University Hospital Freiburg, he has been working at the Erich Lexer Clinic in Freiburg as a specialist in the entire spectrum of aesthetic plastic surgery since 2016.

For his intensive work in the field of breast surgery, in December 2022 Dr. Kalash was the first surgeon in southern Baden-Württemberg to be certified by the German Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (DGPRÄC) as a “specialist for microsurgical breast reconstruction”.
